GACT Professional Development Congress 2017

Its finally here! The 2017 GACT Professional Development Congress and Information Booklet has just been released!

The information booklet contains the program, presenter information, workshop descriptions and costings. For 2017, registration will be online via the link to the form below.

For 2017, the Professional Development Congress will run over two days from the 28-29 January and includes a variety of workshops with the focus not only for gymsports and coaches, but encompassing education and club administration.

We are fortunate to have as guest presenters, Paul Greaves from the UK and John Mitchell from Brisbane. I know that you will all gain some valuable information from the sessions that they will present.

International Presenter – Paul Greaves

Paul began coaching at the age of 18 and by the age of 24 had established Abbey Flyers Trampoline Club - a multi-networking sports organisation. Abbey Flyers fast became one of the leading performance clubs in the UK, which also provided extensive grass roots recreational activity across the city of Sheffield and the region of Yorkshire.

Paul has produced some of the UK’s top trampolinists, including the current woman's Olympic Silver medallist Bryony Page. He also works with freestyle skiers and has helped produce athletes for the last two Winter Olympic Games.

He has received a number of prestigious accolades, including South Yorkshire Sport Young Coach of the Year in 2006; runner-up for Sports Coach UK National Young Coach of the Year 2007; Elite Coach of the Year at the South Yorkshire Sport awards in 2010; Outstanding Coach of the Year by British Gymnastics in 2011; being appointed Junior National Coach and in 2012; and was selected as Team GB Coach for the Youth Olympic Festival in Sydney, Australia. In 2013, he was awarded Master Coach from British Gymnastics; the highest award a coach can gain from the National Governing Body. Paul has also been appointed as an expert coach by the Union of European Gymnastics, leading on European training camps and coach development workshops.

As well as Paul's expertise with Trampoline he is now developing the coaches of tomorrow in his role as Lecturer of Sport, Specialism in Sports Coaching at Sheffield Hallam University. Paul lectures across a range of topics, including – Foundations of Sports Coaching, Coaching Sociology and Philosophy, Elite athletes and sport, coach and club development and community sport.

National Presenter – John Mitchell

Over the last 25 years, John and Megan Mitchell have created one of Australia’s largest private gymnastics organisations.  Delta Gymnastics operate out of six venues spanning from Brisbane to Cairns and in January 2016 opened it’s doors at the largest private facility in Australia.  A unique business which includes private clubs in private facilities through to public-private-partnerships with not-for-profit clubs in council facilities,  Delta has grown to 3000 members, 80 staff and balances the commercial challenges we face in our industry and still manages to present competitive gymnasts at the highest level in Australia.

John is a passionate coach who is involved on a day to day basis coaching competitive gymnastics.  A coach who has produced ten national champions over the past ten years, iIn his sessions John will be presenting a combination of theory and practice to help coaches advance their gymnastics teaching.
