Gymnastics Australia announces Chief Medical Officer and Lead Physio appointments

Gymnastics Australia is pleased to announce the appointments of Dr Richard Saw as Chief Medical Officer and Joshua Rigg as Lead Physio. 

Dr Richard Saw is a Sport and Exercise Medicine Physician and the Lead Physician at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS), working under Chief Medical Officer David Hughes. Before moving to the AIS in 2020, Richard consulted Olympic Park Sports Medicine Centre in Melbourne and has previously worked for Cricket Australia, North Melbourne Football Club, Gymnastics Victoria, and the AFL Umpires. Richard also worked at the Tokyo Paralympics with the Australian Athletics Team in 2021. Richard is currently completing a PhD on lumbar spine bone stress in athletes through the University of Canberra.

Josh Rigg is a senior sports and exercise physiotherapist at the AIS. He currently works with the Men’s Artistic gymnasts at the National Training Centre and the Athletics Australia middle and long distance running squad based at the AIS and he attended the Tokyo Olympics as the Australian Gymnastics team physiotherapist. Josh is one of the primary physiotherapists working with the AIS Intensive Rehabilitation team and is part of its operations committee. Prior to working at the AIS Josh spent 6 years working in the NRL, with 3 years as Head Physiotherapist of the Parramatta Eels, and appointments at the Newcastle Knights and Brisbane Broncos. He was a private practice physio in Western Sydney for 8 years before moving to full time sporting roles.

These roles will be fulfilled as part of Richard and Josh's ongoing roles with the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS).
